Not following OSHA confined space guidelines can be deadly.

The American Packaging Co. found this out the hard way when an expolsion rocked their plant and killed one of their employees. After OSHA investigated they found “the employer did not take adequate precautions to prevent the ignition of flammable vapors” and fined the company $127,350. Daring high angle rescue saves three hikers.

A garbled 911-phone call was all rescuers had to go on late Saturday evening when they discovered three people trapped at the base of Victor Falls in Bonney Lake. One was severely injured and transported to a local trauma center after rescuers performed a complicated, high-angle rescue to reach him, according to a East Pierce Fire and Rescue press release. Firefighters arrived at the 18800 block of Rhodes Lake Rd. around 5:30 p.m. on July 16 and discovered three young adults at the base of Victor Falls. Two young boys were climbing on the Whitley Bay cliffs when they became stranded. Rescuers were called in after a lifeguard tried to reach the boys and became trapped himself. All three walked away with no injuries.
